Why EliteAyurveda

How Does Our Asthma Treatment Benefit You?

Asthma is a medical condition in which the airways are narrowed, swell and produce extra mucus. This makes breathing difficult and triggers coughing along with whistling sound while breathing out. It is also accompanied with shortness of breath, and in severe cases may lead to life-threatening asthma attacks. These symptoms flare up in situations like vigorous physical activities, chemical fumes, gases, dust, mold spores, cockroach waste, strong emotions, stress, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) etc.
‘Pranavaha sorto vikara’ is the term for asthma in ayurvedic text that causes regular breathing difficulties. It is caused due to imbalance in Kapha dosha and pitta dosha that triggers the symptoms like wheezing, coughing, fever and irritability. The asthma which is triggered by vitiation of Vata dosha leads to symptoms like wheezing, dry mouth, thirst, dry cough, dry skin, anxiety and constipation.
The treatment of asthma, according to ayurveda, focuses on balancing the vitiated doshas. This is done by therapies like Vamana and Virechana. These therapies help in cleaning the body and elimination of toxins that accumulate in the nasal route. The treatment is also associated with intake of oral medications that help in building immunity, avoid recurrence, re-establishes the normal functioning of the body and helps to fight disease for long term. A well balanced diet and exercise regimen along with breathing and yoga practices are recommended to promote quick healing. This line of treatment helps in reversal of conditions in a natural and holistic way.

Types of Asthma

1. Based on severity of symptoms:

  • Intermittent: This type of asthma comes and goes, allowing you to function normally in between asthma attacks.
  • Persistent: This type of asthma implies that you experience symptoms almost all of the time. Symptoms might range from minor to severe.

2. Based on causes:

  • Allergies: Asthma attacks can be triggered by allergies in certain persons. Molds, pollens, and pet dander are examples of allergens.
  • Non-allergic: Asthma flare-ups can be triggered by external events. Exercise, stress, sickness, and the weather can all trigger a flare.

3. Based on onset on condition

  • Adult-onset asthma: This kind of asthma develops after the age of 18.
  • Pediatric asthma: It is also known as childhood asthma, frequently develops before the age of five and can affect newborns and toddlers.

4. Based on triggering factors:

  • Exercise-induced asthma: It is also known as exercise-induced bronchospasm, is caused by physical activity.
  • Occupational asthma: This kind of asthma affects those who work with irritating chemicals.
  • ACOS (asthma-COPD overlap syndrome) occurs when you have both asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Both conditions make breathing difficult.

Causes for Asthma

1)Air pollution: A variety of factors outside might trigger an asthma attack. Air pollution is caused by a variety of sources, including manufacturing pollutants, automobile exhaust, and wildfire smoke.

2)Dust mites are invisible organisms that live in our houses. If you are allergic to dust mites, this might trigger an asthma attack.

3)Exercising might trigger an attack in some people.

4)Mold: Mold may grow in damp areas, which can be problematic if you have asthma.

5)Cockroaches, mice, and other domestic pests can all trigger asthma episodes.

6)Pets: Asthma episodes might be triggered by your pets. Breathing in pet dander (dry skin flakes) might irritate your airways if you are sensitive to it.

7)Tobacco smoke: If you or someone in your household smokes, you are more likely to get asthma. You should never smoke in confined spaces such as a car or your house, and the ideal option is to stop smoking entirely. Your service provider can assist you.

8)Strong chemicals or odors: These factors can set off panic episodes in certain people.

9)Certain occupational hazards. At work, you may be exposed to a variety of substances, including cleaning products, flour or wood dust, and other chemicals. If you have asthma, they might all be triggers.

Root Cause Treatment

“The ayurvedic approach of disease looks for the root cause and not merely the symptoms. The basic principles of Ayurveda consider an individual human a specific identity and hence his treatment giving importance to the treatment of the patient rather than the treatment of the disease.”

Wisdom of Ayurveda

“Since Ayurveda focuses on the root-cause of the disease, it effectively reduces the risk of severe health complications arising out of the untreated underlying cause. Patients who complete their Ayurveda treatment have a reduced risk of health complications later.”
