How Does Our Tennis Elbow Treatment Benefit You?

Tennis elbow is also known as lateral epicondylitis which causes painful conditions in the elbow caused by the overuse of it. It is named as tennis elbow as it is most common in people playing sports like tennis or racquets. Tennis elbow causes inflammation and in some cases causes micro-tearing of tendons that join the forearm muscles on the outside of the elbow. This damages the forearm muscles and causes severe pain and tenderness on the outside of the elbow.
According to Ayurveda, the condition tennis elbow is caused due to vitiation of Pitta dosha at the start. This further tends to vitiate Vata dosha that gets accumulated in the channels of muscle linings and causes stiffness in their movements. This vitiation of two dosha causes the third one that is unable to do any movement in the arm, which is due to accumulation of Kapha dosha at the site. The symptoms of tennis elbow include swollen, red and warm elbow; pain in movement while lifting objects; dull ache even in resting position; elbow stiffness in morning; weakness in wrist joints, etc.
Anti-inflammatory Ayurvedic drugs, application of medicinal oils/powders to the region with moderate massage, sweating treatment (Swedana), Lepanam, and Pichu treatment are all indicated depending on the severity of the problem. Along with this, a proper diet and exercise regimen is suggested to avoid any further vitiation of doshas and their accumulation. This line of treatment helps in reversal of tennis elbow and also relief from symptoms.

Types of tennis elbow

The types of tennis elbow are based on the origin of pain:

  1. Pain from muscle: That little bone serves as an anchor for about six distinct muscles. These muscles' knots can all refer to pain in one little bony spot, making it very painful and uncomfortable.
  2. Tendonitis is a type of pain that occurs when a tendon is inflamed or wear in the tendon where it enters into this bone might cause pain.
  3. Nerve-related pain: The radial nerve goes from your neck to your armpit and then straight through this spot. This portion of the elbow might pain if there is pressure on this nerve in the neck.
